Relief Society is the women’s organization in the LDS church. There is a post on Segullah about Putting the relief in Relief Society that just helps illustrate why I love being a member of this organization. The women are simply amazing.

Thanks, Lucy!
The following began when my children were much smaller. (Think 3 and 4)
“MOOOOooooooooo-ooooom!”
“That’s not my name.”
“It’s not?”
“No, it’s Mrs. McGillicuddy.”
Most of the time by the time I reminded them about Mrs. McGillicuddy they’d forgotten what they were going to whine about and it made us smile. Even better was when I refused to even answer to that long drawn-out extended call of Mo-om. I would just say “Who?” and they would change it to “Mrs. McGillicuddy”. And they simply didn’t want to take time to try and do the same thing with Mrs. McGillicuddy. So, thank you, Lucy McGillicuddy Ricardo. I hope you don’t mind me borrowing your maiden name.

The Beach, Part Deux
Here are a couple more pictures from my morning at the beach. I like the one above for the colors that you can see as the sun shines through the water. It’s what I was thinking about when I was planning the quilt for G.
The beach is the only place I like to see Seagulls. They’re pests just about everywhere else. But they’re pretty at the beach.

Life at the Beach
I’m not sure what I like more when I go to the beach. Watching the play of light on the sand and the water. The sound of the waves crashing into each other and the shore. Or simply watching others enjoy the beach. Especially the animals. Like this Puppy. Who knows how old he is, he is a puppy for sure. And this is what he’s chasing.
Ghost Crabs were all over the beach at this point digging in and out of the sand. They stayed clear of people and any time anything moved near them they were back inside the sand as quick as you could blink. The dog was going to catch one though. The first picture I took actually shows how determined he is.
He would get up. Sit for a moment and then move on to the next Ghost Crab that caught his eye. He was having a great time too. In reality, he didn’t care if he caught one. He just wanted to keep chasing them and was really happy that there were so many of them to chase.

Why I like Girl’s Camp
- For one week a year the girls in our church have a chance to get together and just be themselves.
- I have a teenage daughter who has learned much from being able to participate in this camp every year. In spite of having a learning disability she has been accepted. This year was her fourth year and they went on a 25 mile hike together over 3 days.
- Being able to be just a bit silly myself sometime during this week. Not one of the girls, but a little more relaxed than when your not camping.
- Scenes like the one above early in the morning before any of the girls would even think of waking up.
PS – Things I don’t like: really LOUD birds with a rooster complex who think it’s their job to sing so the sun will rise! It will do just fine without you for cryin’ out loud! Give it up.

A year in the Planning…

Midnight at Sea And yet it only took about a week to make this quilt. REALLY actual time making the quilt was probably about a week. Ok, I didn’t work on it 7 straight days. They were spread out when I had time to work on it and in between other quilts. But the method is that simple, honest and no foolin’.
I knew the first time I saw one of these types of quilts that I wanted to make one, I even knew that I’d make it for G. Graduation seemed like the perfect opportunity to give it to him. So I had time to work on it. And Plan. Because I didn’t buy a book or a pattern. Might have helped a tad at the end. Maybe. Maybe not. I’m just glad I have friends who know what they’re doing and have made this quilt as well. And a GREAT friend who helped me quilt it so it would turn out like I really wanted.
I like it. More importantly, G. likes it. Now I can move on to some others in the works. I’ve only got Hmm… quilts planned in my head through 2009 at least.
