Our schedule was so packed on Monday evening when we normally would have had Family Home Evening (Kevin had his final for his LAST class for his Bachelors degree!!) that we moved it to tonight. In our family the one person is in charge each week. That person plans the lesson and conducts the meeting and for their treat is that they get to pick the treat at the end of the evening. It works for us.
Tonight was also Kevin’s night for the FHE lesson. He chose this article by Spencer W. Kimball as the basis for his lesson. In the article there are actually two quotes by Phillips Brooks that really struck me. So I looked him up. I found a few more quotes that I liked here. They seem especially appropriate given my post this morning. I love it when things work that way. So here are my favorites.
- “Greatness, after all, in spite of its name, appears to be not so much a certain size as a certain quality in human lives.”
- “The hills are full of marble before the world blooms with statues”
- “Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for power equal to your tasks.”
- “The true way to be humble is not to stoop until you are smaller than yourself, but to stand at your real height against some higher nature that will show you what the real smallness of your greatness is. “
I know my statue still needs a lot of work. What about you?
